Shenandoah River Getaway

I got anxious sitting around for a couple months after we had to cancel our larger summer trips so on a whim I booked a trip to nearby (2.5 hours) Shenandoah River State Park outside Front Royal, VA. The place had good reviews and for once it looked like the weather window was good. Our only challenges were that we couldn’t pull Ryder out of school early on Friday so we didn’t leave until after 3:15. We decided to try picking him up with Talley in tow just to see if it saved us much and I’m pretty confident that it saved us 45 minutes or more of westbound travel. That was huge considering it was Friday afternoon and we were headed for the DC beltway.

So while our stay was limited we made the best of every minute. I got a ride in Saturday morning and Kris took Moose to the Winchester BMX track for some racing that night while EJ and I hung out with the dogs. We loved the spot… the only downside being that there was zero connectivity…. probably the worst we’ve experienced in our travels so far. I was fine with a book and the boys had DVDs to entertain in the evenings. We would definitely return, as long as we didn’t think there was a reason to be “in-touch”.
