Am I f***ing crazy!?

Well, the answer is likely yes. With a gazillion things going on, switching jobs at ABYC, Ryder responsibilities, and the never ending basement project not yet finished up… why would I ever dream of starting another big project? Crazy is probably the only true answer.

But the need is there, big time. The house has been upside down since the basement project started and many of the areas waiting for completion are packed with storage or tools or something that really doesn’t belong there. Some of the waiting projects require tools like my table saw or router table and I have no space to set them up. Lastly, when I do embark on a project, it often takes me 82 trips up and down the stairs to the basement where my main tool chest is or outside where other boxes are or even over to storage where my remaining things are kept… turning a two hour project into a 4 or 5 hour project. So its damn time to build a shop. Here we go.

So far I trenched the soil for the foundation which consists of 3 rows of precast deck piers which rest in several inches of rock. The piers have been placed, the floor framed with pressure treated lumber and the subfloor is installed laying out the 12′ by 18′ shop. Next I layed out the design for the rafters which I am building on the flat deck area and marked off the materials.

Storms have held up my progress so far this week, so I’ll do my best to get through cutting the rest of the materials and assembling the rafters. Then comes framing the walls, siding which will be T-111, roofing and trim. A later project will be running power to the shed and interior work, but that is likely going to be later this year or in the fall.
I need my head examined.
