Beach Front Site

Wow. Just wow. How could we not choose a beach front site, overlooking a lake in the Adirondacks of upstate New York for $40 a nite? We jumped at the chance even though there was very little info out there on the interwebs about Little Wolf Pond. The campground is owned and operated by the town of Tupper Lake (just south of Little Wolf) where they also have a city beach (complete with lifeguards and a swim platform) and boat ramp. The temperature plummeted between Gardiner and here as a pressure system moved south of us so not only were we greeted by wonderful cool a Adirondack summer breeze, the skies were clear the water perfect and serene. We were in site #1… literally on the beach and the preferred setup was to go bow-in so I drove on the beach to tow Talley in her spot. Our front door faced the beach so each morning we opened the door to hear the lapping water on the sand.

We swam and played on the beach every day…. that was a no brainer. Each evening we were treated to magnificent sunsets, even when the afternoon storms started coming in late in the week. Tupper Lake is only about 45 minutes from Lake Placid, so we made a day trip to go see the site of the 1980 Winter Olympic Hockey victory over Russia. Unfortunately the museum was under construction but they had moved some of the exhibits over to a convention center so we could see them. We will need a return trip to see more of Lake Placid, as well as Saranac Lake which are both amazing Adirondack communities with lots to see and do.

I guess I didn’t have any idea what the Adirondacks were all about. Are there some touristy areas? Sure. I know I have a relatively spoiled mountain opinion when considering where I grew up and then spent my young adult life. But I have to say that the Adirondacks are amazing and I could truly see spending some time there to explore and maybe even ski in the years to come. Before leaving, we jumped at the chance to book again next year. They have the same site available (as well as site #2 available for Ari and Lucas) for a mid June 2022 trip and we can’t wait to head back and explore.
