A mathematical term widely embraced by the bicycle community to describe how many bicycles is the “right” number of bikes to own. Well, there never really is an answer is there. In this new bicycle-centric world we live in there was some need for additions to our collection. The Westminster Bike Swap happens annually in February a little more than an hour from here and it has proven to be one of the larger swaps on the east coast. We arrived this year with a legitimate list of parts and bike we wanted… and we even had a budget which we did not exceed. It made the whole experience fun… we could actually shop, wheel and deal.

We walked away from the swap with a more size appropriate mountain bike for Ryder (he had pretty much outgrown his specialized, but we’ll hold on to this for EJ when the time comes). Next up was a balance bike for EJ that would be better suited for when he started racing at the track with his brother (if that even happens… we’ll see). This was a bit of an impulse, it was all of $20…. mmm ok. We also scored a micro mini for EJ for the next steps in racing which honestly is unlikely to happen this year. This was also a deal we couldn’t pass up and even if he never rides it, we can pretty easily sell it in our BMX community. Finally was an unexpected BMX cruiser find for me at the moments just before walking out.

After all was said and done, we bought 4 bikes and some odds and ends that I had been on the lookout for and frankly just didn’t want to pay retail for. Not to mention, it was fun looking at the huge array of bikes from over the years, some of which I drooled over in years past, some that I had never seen before.

Well… we weren’t really done after this. Kris found a pit bike on Marketplace the next day and it too…. is now in our garage. Just because.
