Spring Break 2025 – Williamsburg

Hard to believe winter is nearly over and we’re planning Spring Break already. Granted, Ryder’s break is a little early compared to public school schedules, but frankly this makes it really feel more like a “spring break”. We had been planning (just like last year) to head to Canaan to camp and get a couple days of skiing in. The season was actually looking pretty good early on and through January, however the last month or so the weather patterns broke and the conditions fell apart to be favorable for a snowy escape. So we elected to look for other options and instead of another trip to Myrtle, we opted to head towards Williamsburg where we had visited several years ago. At that time we were still Thousand Trails members so the fees were included in our membership, however the campground left a lot to be desired so we found a nearby private park that offered great full hook up services, but also cabins so that Lois could join us. The proximity to historic Williamsburg was fantastic with Jamestown and Yorktown not far either, so we were able to make it to all three locations with ease and had ample quests to explore and unwind. I was still in the interviewing phase, so I stayed behind for a few adventures, but Kris and I (towing the RV) drove separately which afforded flexibility to divide and conquer. For the most part, we knew the lay of the land of Historic Williamsburg, but I really loved how immersive Jamestown and Yorktown were and we could get close to reenactments and see how the revolutionary soldiers lived their daily lives. The boys (especially Ryder who is finding an appreciation for history) loved every minute of it. We capped off the visit with a trip to the nearby Great Wolf Lodge for some swimming and water slides. We could hardly get EJ out of the wave pool.

We’re really excited to see some of these adventures make an impact on the boys. They are amazing sponges for these trips and hope the memories are long lasting. Camping Season 2025 is now officially underway!
