Over the last few years of camping in the RV we sometime “boondock” meaning we have no access to utilities. You know, “roughing it.” … in a 38′ condo on wheels. Well that condo isn’t so comfortable when the amenities it presents have no power and the batteries only get us a few hours of refrigeration. To make up for this, we’ve had a small generator to power the rig. Considering the frequency at which we camp this way, the little generator did just fine.
After a couple seasons of this and learning about the little generator’s short comings, we stepped up to a lager one that more than doubled our capacity with less effort by the machine. Insert Tim Taylor grunt! … MORE POWER!!
The next couple seasons look as though we’re going to be using the RV a lot for BMX races which seldom have hook ups so the added juice on the hot exposed parking lots around the track will be greatly appreciated. We found a great sale on a Predator 5000W which runs on both gasoline and propane. It has some great features like remote start and load monitoring and built in hour meter. I want to make this one last so I ran through the break in period carefully as the manual describes before our first trip and I’m sure glad I did, the first round of oil was nasty.
Fingers crossed we’ll have many air conditioned afternoons this summer!
