Leaf Eater

The new property has somewhere north of 80 trees on it. Most are pine, but there are still several deciduous and hence, the expectation is that there will be a LOT of leaves come fall. Fall also coincides with a busy season at ABYC as well as EDPi so I am notoriously tardy in my leaf raking. Now that I am a tractor nerd, I have discovered that “they make a tool for that” is a common thought process and I quickly found that others who dislike leaves automated the collection process long ago. So I sought out my own solution and found a neat little machine on craigslist to help me out. None were available nearby, and a new one would cost me $2,400, so I drove a couple hours to rural Virginia last week to pick up a well maintained second hand Trac Vac for $450.

Fun was had just removing it from the truck… again, implementing my favorite new Kubota to retrieve it and control it as it rolled down the ramps.

Next is adapting the hardware to fit my mow deck. I could spend another couple hundred bucks to get the right chute, but where’s the fun in that?
