# 200! – Christmas Lights are Up

Wow!  200 hundred posts!!!

I had done a lot of decorating the weekend after thanksgiving including getting the tree up and pulling down most of the decor from the attic. I even got most of the outdoor lights up, but it wouldn’t be complete until I figured out how to hang lights from the second floor roof.

On Sunday, I finally managed to suck it up and go up there. Semi steep pitch roofs are never a favorite of mine, but when they’re 30’ up its even less so. I had to pull my extension ladder up on to the lower roof and I had just enough space next to the chimney that it was stable. I also used a ratchet strap around the chimney to insure it wouldn’t come loose while I was up there.

As for the lights, I simply inserted small white hooks every 3 feet or so on each gable. Hanging over the side with my drill for the pilot hole, I was tense the whole time and finally relieved to be on terra firma once again. While up there, I also did some inspection work on the chimneys and identified that I’ll have to do some work in the near future as the cap is deteriorating a bit.

I was hanging the last of the lights after dark but it was great to stand back and see the house all lit up. I’m already thinking of improvements for next year, but at least I can do most of it from a lower altitude.
