Moving Mountains

Immediately after Ry’s inaugural baseball game Saturday morning, I was warming up the tractor and hitching up various attachments. Next weekend we are having a backyard Easter Egg Hunt which has grown now to somewhere around 40 guests.

The yard is far from ready with debris everywhere and the grasses only barely peeking through the winter blankets. Nevertheless, I was determined to get as much cleaned as possible. So I raked out the forest (as much as I could at least) with the landscape rake behind the tractor. It’s a bit like performing brain surgery with a hatchet however, so while it accomplished what I wanted, there is still some finish work to do. It raked up so much material (pine needles, leaves, dirt, stick, rocks, poop… you name it) that I had to trailer it to the back corner of the property where I now have a skiable mountain (if it ever snowed here!).

We cleared a lot of branches with the new Silky and even took down a couple trees whose stability was becoming suspect. I still need to get the hole filled from our little leakage problem a few months back so I’ll need to get a load of top soil and lastly I’ll spread the last of last year’s mulch in the flower beds before cleaning off the patio and hiding some eggs… whew.

We’re off to the races.
