Rescue Mission

We’ve got 4 Bald Cyprus trees on the property and they are my overall favorites. They are tall flowing trees with soft needles and they turn a brilliant crimson in the fall before losing their leaves.

One of them was damaged when another tree struck it and sheared all the limbs off on the west facing side. That one certainly lacks that symmetrical shape that made it so beautiful before, but more concerning is whether or not it can survive with that much loss of foliage.

The youngest of the bunch was planted several years ago by the home’s original owner. It still has the protection cage around the base and it only stands about 8 or 10′ tall. Unfortunately, because of the wild overgrowth near this sapling, some sort of constrictor vine had climbed on top of it and was smothering it. So while cleaning up that area before my first milling project, I took some extra time to rescue her from the grips of the unrelenting creeper. The vine was literally strangling the Cyprus and left helical marks along the trunk and anywhere it could grab and the weight was bending the defenseless tree over keeping her from reaching the sunlight she really needed.

I’m hoping after clearing this off, that she will become a prominent feature in the front yard landscaping.
