Summer Getaway

The summer has been crazy to say the least. Unfortunately that meant that we had to cancel an extended (nearly 2 week) trip and pare it down to only a few nights… but I’ll take what we can get. I had a massive project deadline to get through which was due on 8/1 and our tires screeched out of the drive way once that was submitted.

We headed back to the Canaan Valley area in West Virginia where we have been many times before. Although this time, we camped at the Canaan Valley State Park Campground near the main lodge. They just added a new loop with probably 25 new full hook up sites overlooking the West Virginia tundra. Our spot was wonderful with lots of room and a wonderful view. To improve our moods even more, the temps dipped into the 50s at night and peaked in the mid 70s during the day. I got a couple of mountain bike rides in and we made a couple trips out for ice cream and to the swimming pool at the nearby lodge.

We could have stayed a lot longer, but as the week closed out, we headed to Cumberland MD just s short drive away where Ryder raced in another state BMX race. Riverside BMX is a decent track that just underwent some big upgrades, although some recent rain had wrecked havoc on the track surface, but the racers made due. The first few motos had Ryder in 3 and 2 respectively, so he made his main event, but he didn’t seem to be firing on all cylinders. Nobody told him that tho and right as the gate dropped, there was a different Ryder on the track…. he demolished his competitors all of whom were a year or even two older than him (he was racing up into the 11s novice). Wow, what a race.

We had originally planned to stay in the field by the track, but since racing ended pretty early, we elected to pack up and head home so we had our whole Sunday to unwind.
