One Month

Today marks one month since we bought the new house and its been a flurry since our feet landed on the sleeping winter lawn of Duvall. In that month:

  • We actually finished moving, which in so many ways felt like it would never happen. Now, moving in… that’s a different story
  • Woke up to an amazing meadow outside our windows
  • Nearly all the neighbors came by to meet us in the first week (some even brought traditional gifts!!  who does that?)
  • I hung the microwave. It was a PITA as expected. The walls are not drywall, they are in fact: plaster! There was brick veneer and a distinct lack of outlet over the stove. ugh. Done now at least.
  • Painted Ryder’s room. Its the only room in the house that isn’t flat white. Its the blue from the Ramblewood sun room that we like so much
  • Hung blinds. Lots of them. The big 3 inch wide kind. We bought enough for all the rooms in the house, so for once, everything matches… imagine that!?
  • Installed a fence. Ok, I paid someone else to do it, but its done. A dog run behind the garage with 6′ privacy fence and then 5′ farm fencing around what we could afford to fence in, which turned out to be nearly 3/4 of an acre!
  • Played extensively (and did some actual work too) using the tractor.
  • Started and have nearly finished the basement playroom project. I primed the walls for painting last night.
  • We listened and watched as limbs, branches and entire trees came crashing down. I’ll be in clean up mode for weeks over that one little ice storm.
  • I brought Timberline home. Which was a little scary frankly. Her trailer has rusted to the point it could have collapsed under her weight on the drive here. I drove like grandma all the way here and prayed she would make it without an expensive tow truck bill.
  • We had the chimneys inspected which we had debated over extensively prior to closing. Unfortunately, this may be the one area on the house that did not receive the care and maintenance that most of the rest did. It will likely be a costly repair, but one we can postpone as a fireplace isn’t required.

One month in and we have so far to go… but we have done so much already! One of the next big tasks is getting the guest room ready for mom who comes in a few weeks.
